Main Functions(Profile):
Situate in the southeast of Fujian province, Quanzhou is one of the three core cities and an economic center in Fujian. It is also one of the 24 first-batch Famous Historic and Cultural Cities designated by the State Council. Confucianism, Buddhism and Daoism are all popular in Quanzhou. It is a well-known and major hometown of overseas Chinese and Taiwanese compatriots of Han Nationality. In 2007, Quanzhou’s GDP reached RMB 228.86 billion yuan, with the total GDP volume ranking the first in the province for 9 years on end and a disposable income per resident at RMB 18,097. The population of the city is 7.62 million.
Quanzhou has been one of the four trade ports in south China since the open of cities in the Tang Dynasty. In 2007, Quanzhou became one of the Top 100 Ports in Strength and ranked the 93rd in the competitiveness ranking of world ports. Having a long history behind it, Quanzhou is recognized as the Coastal Zoulu, World Religion Museum and City of Light, with 20 state-level relic protection spots and 40 provincial-level protection spots. Quanzhou area is very conducive to the development of agricultural production, especially to the economic crops such as sugar, oilseeds, hemp, forestry, fruit and tea etc. It is a production base for oolong tea, longan and orange. There are about 100 major fish categories in Quanzhou.
