Overview
Urumqi, whose name means "beautiful pasture" in the Mongolian language of the Dzungar people, is the capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and the largest city in the northwest of the country, also the center of politics, economy, culture, science and technology in Xijiang province.
Located at the north of Xijiang, northern foot of Tianshan, southern margin of the Juggar Basin, Xinjiang, has one-sixth of Chinese territory, an important gateway to West and the starting point of New Eurasian Continental Bridge in western China, furthermore, Urumqi lives more than 47 ethnic groups for has been an important town on ancient Silk Road, mainly in Han, Uygur, Kazak, Hui, Mongolian. As an inland city farthest away from ocean in the world, Urumqi belongs to the Continental Arid climate, so the best tourism times are August and September, when the weather is temperate and the fruit is mature then.
