Mudanjiang Overview
Overview
Mudanjiang, a reputable land of milk and honey, is in the southeast of Heilongjiang Province. It becomes the heart of a ‘golden triangle' being bordering on its three sides by China, Russia and Korea, and it enjoys a name as ‘the lush southern land in the outer north'. The city of Mudanjian gained its name by the fact that the mighty Mudanjiang River runs through the city. Enclosed on all its sides by ranges of mountains and with even terrain in the middle, it certainly looks the part of a natural basin. Jingpo Lake, the largest volcanic lava-dammed lake, lies in the southwest of the city. As a tourist destination, Mudanjiang boasts rich tourist resources. Over 30 scenic spots, historical sites and cultural attractions have been open to the public. They are the Crater National Forest Park, the Mudan Peak National Forest Park and National Nature Reserve, Mudan Peak Ski Field, the legendary Eight Heroines Memorial statue, Hengdaohezi Northeast China Tiger Sanctuary, Mount Weihushan Tiger Watching Ground, Lotus Lake and so on. Mudanjiang covers an area of 40,583 sq. kms and has a population of about 2.7 million people.
