Overview
Jilin City is located on the Songnen Plain at the end of the Changbai Mountain Range, the east of the central Jilin Province. With the topography that is high in the southeast and low in the northwest, the Songhua River goes through the whole province. Bordering with Yanbian Korea Nationality Autonomous Region to the east, Changchun, Siping City to the west, Bai Mountain, Tonghua, Liaoyuan City to the south, and Heilongjiang Province to the north, Jilin City has a population of more than 4 million and an area of 27894 square km. It consists of 4 districts: Changyi, Chuanying, Longtan, Fengman; Yongji County; and 4 county-level cities: Shulan, Panshi, Jiaohe and Huadian.
It is the second large city in Jinlin Province and also the only city that has the same name with its province. Jilin was originally called “Jilin Wula”, means “the city along the river” in Man language. With a long history, Jilin City, one of 32 largest cities in China, was named as an opening city of the first rate and as the “historical and cultural city of China” by the State Council. From the 14th to the 19th century, Jilin was the important politics, economy and military center in the northeast area. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the early days of the public of China and liberation, Jilin was the capital city of Jilin province.

The array of ancient temples in the North Mountain is characterized by a blending of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism. There is also the carved stone in Ming Dynasty, and local featured traditional folk custom. Jilin City is a typical snow sports tour city, inside it, there are the snow sports centers, such as: North Mountain, Zhuque Mountain snow ground, Songhua Lake and Beidahu Skiing Ground.
The most numerous street in Jilin City is the Chongqing Road. Jilin City is one of the places that multi-nationality inhabited. The strong national features of Wula Street Man folk custom, Aladi Village, Xingguang Korea folk custom attract a great number of tourists from home and abroad.
