Wuhai (Chinese: 乌海; pinyin: Wūhǎi; Mongolian:) which is a municipality directly under the local government of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, lies in the west of Inner Mongolia and is a new industrial city with natural resources. In the year of 1988 it was established as an experimental area of Inner Mongolia economic structural reform and an open city to foreigners, and enjoys the limits of authority of provincial management. Wuhai has an area of 1,754 km2 and, as of 2000, 427,553 inhabitants (243.76 inhabitants/km2).
