Mentougou District Overview
Located in the west of Beijing, Mentougou District is 25 kilometers away from the downtown of Beijing with an area of 1455 square kilometers. With green mountains and fields, blue sky and water, elegant scenes and favorable climate, the scenes become different as people pass by. As and important pass, it is the protective fence of Beijing in the west. There are high-standing Taihang Mountain, verdurous rolling Yongding River, winding glorious ancient Great Walls and incense-burning temples with thousands of years. Its cultural heritages will spread for long with its rich resources, gifted people long history and primitive folk customs.
Mentougou has many beautiful natural scenes and places of interest. There is Tanzhe Temple – a royal temple of the largest scale with the longest history in Beijing, Jietai Temple – a place of being initiated into monkhood of the highest level in the history of Chinese Buddhism, Lingshan Mountain – the largest subalpine meadow in North China as well as the highest above the sea level in Beijing, Beihua Mountain – the largest natural garden of animals and plants in North China, Miaofeng Mountain – a folkway tourist resort with the greatest influence in North China, Cuandixia Village as well as Lingshui Village – China’s Famous Historical and Cultural Village. Other tourist spots such as the Pearl Lake, the Double-dragon Gorge and the Dragon Gate Valley are also located here. Every year, millions of people come here for sightseeing, leisure and vacation.
