Liuyang Overview
Liuyang City is located in the eastern part of Hunan Province, about 60 kilometers (37 miles) from Changsha, the capital of Hunan. Liuyang and the two cities of Zhuzhou and Xiangtan form the "Golden Triangle" around Changsha. Liuyang is comprised of 37 townships. The total area of Liuyang is more than 7000 square kilometers (2700 square miles), and the city has a population of more than 1.3 million people, making it a small--but vibrant--city by the standards of China.
Liuyang City is overflowing with natural beauty. One of the first places you'll want to visit is Da Wei Mountain National Park, which is known for its dense forests and beautiful scenery. Also of interest is Dao Wu Mountain and Liuyang Lake. No visit to Liuyang is complete without trips to these beautiful places. Of course, few experiences equal the beauty of an evening stroll along the banks of Liuyang River while fireworks explode in every corner of the sky.
China's--and indeed the world's--fireworks industry is focused in and around Liuyang City. Fireworks have a 1300 year history in China. Over the years, Liuyang has secured its place at the center of the fireworks industry by focusing on constant innovation and ever-increasing quality. As befits its place in the fireworks industry, Liuyang is the permanent headquarters of the International Fireworks Association. If you are involved in the fireworks business, there is only one place you have to be--Liuyang.
Liuyang City specializes in spicy (and delicious!) Hunan food and has a wide selection of fantastic Chinese restaurants. However, if you are looking for a taste of home, Liuyang also has many Western restaurants. Liuyang is home to two McDonalds restaurants and two KFC restaurants, each of which offers the same delicious food you are used to in your home country as well as some China-specific treats. You are not limited to Western fast food in Liuyang, though. Liuyang also has a number of Western-style coffee shops--such as Canvas Coffee, Raindrops Cafe, and Ido Coffee--that offer a large variety of Western dishes. In addition to many different kinds of coffee, these coffee shops also serve steaks, sandwiches, salads, pancakes, waffles, and ice cream sundaes. So, no matter what you are hungry for, Liuyang can provide it.
After a hard day's work and a delicious dinner, everyone needs a chance to relax. Liuyang City's nightlife has something for everyone. If you are in the mood to relax, listen to music, and perhaps sing with your friends, Liuyang has a large number of high quality karaoke bars (KTVs). All of the KTVs have a lot of English music, although the English music collections of the KTVs in the Yin Tian and Hua Tian hotels are by far the largest. If you are feeling a bit more energetic, consider visiting one of the night clubs in Liuyang. Party Bar and Melody are the most popular. Each bar offers a wide selection of alcohol (foreign and domestic), great music, and big dance floors. You will definitely not be bored in Liuyang.
