Feicheng Overview
With an area of 1277.3 square kilometers and a population of 971.1 thousand people, Feicheng City ranks the first 50 in the 100 TOP counties of basic competitive power in China, and the 64th in the 100 TOP on comprehensive strength of middle and small cities, and the 28th in the 100 TOP on the most potential investment. With rich resources, Feicheng is very famous for the name of the Hometown of Peach and the First County of Organic Vegetable. The explored reserves on resources include coal of 1.1 billion tons, potash feldspar of 500 million tons, ralk salt of 5 billion tons, gypsum of 15 billion tons, granite of 2 billion tons, high-quality limestone of 45 billion, geothermal spring resource of over 100 square kilometers.
Feicheng currently has five pillar industries -- grain, fruits, vegetables, sericulture, and animal husbandry. Of its 32 registered farm and by-product trademarks, 11 have been designated famous brand names by the state and province. The 500-hectare organic vegetables certified by the Organic Crops Improvement Association (OCIA), the 600-hectare green ginger certified by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture, and the 400-hectare pollution-free melons, fruits and vegetables certified by the provincial agriculture department are new economic growth points within the rural economy. They have injected new vitality into Feicheng's agricultural development.
Feicheng has established cooperative ties with 50 countries and regions, including the United States, Britain, Germany, Japan, Russia, the Republic of Korea, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Within the country, it has built close ties with 270 schools of higher learning, scientific research institutes and large and medium-sized enterprises. It has also established friendly ties with seven domestic counties and cities, and Japan's Ichinomiya Cho in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
As an agricultural city, nearly 80 percent of Feicheng residents are farmers. In the process of industrializing its agriculture, Feicheng has developed its own characteristics. It is a leading pollution-free producer in Shandong and nationwide. Organic farming production bases in Feicheng have increased to a level of 10,000 hectares, and eight products have obtained certification as national-level green food and provincial-level pollution-free food.

Beautiful peach blossoms are a characteristic of Feicheng tourism. Its sea of flowers forms a natural, revitalizing "oxygen bar." In the spring of 2002, Feicheng held its first Peach Blossom Tourism Festival, following the principle of "using flowers as a matchmaker, attracting outside investment, developing tourism, expanding influence, and stimulating the local economy." The peach blossoms in the 100,000-mu peach orchard drew numerous tourists and merchants.
