Zunhua Overview
Zunhua, located at the south foot of Yanshan Mountain, northeast of Hebei Province, is a county-level city of Tangshan. It against the Great Wall to the north, neighbors Beijing and Tianjin to the west and south, and connects Shengyang to the east. Enjoying a warm-temperate monsoon climate, the city is dry in spring, hot and rainy in summer, and chilly in winter. The average annual temperature is near 11℃, and its average yearly rainfall reaches 760 millimeters.
Known as a fine city near the capital, Zunhua is an ancient city owns the largest ancient Mausoleum complex with grandiose scale, complete system and exquisite structures in China.
This area was called Xuwu in Western Han Dynasty. The name Zunhua comes from the meaning of educating people with the doctrine of Confucius and Mencius in Five Dynasty Period. In Ming dynasty, Zunhua became an important center of iron smelting.
Although it’s a small town, Zunhua tourism is composed of historical heritages, graceful landscapes and religious sites. The most famous one must be Eastern Royal Tombs of Qing Dynasty, the finest and largest extant Mausoleum complex in China. Yu Ling in Eastern Royal Tombs of Qing Dynasty is the tomb of Qianlong of Qing Dynasty, the longest-living emperor in Chinese history. The underground palace of Yu Ling is regarded as the treasure-house of stone carving art.
Located at the west of Eastern Qing Mausoleums, Thousands Buddhas Garden owns the largest Jadeite Buddha in the world.
Other highlights include Great Wall Hunting Place, Shangguan Lake, Aofeng Mountain, Erlang Temple, and Shashiyu Village also worth a visit.
