Shangyu Overview
Shangyu (Chinese: 上虞; pinyin: Shàngyú) is a county-level city which is part of the prefecture-level city of Shaoxing in the Northeast of Zhejiang province of the People's Republic of China. Shangyu lies in the northeast of Zhejiang Province, it is 62Km from Ningbo to the east, 72 Km from Hangzhou to the west, it joins Hangzhou Gulf northwards and is opposite to Shanghai City merely by a river. It has a jurisdiction area of 1427 square kilometers, 21 towns with a population of 780,000, It makes up about one-fourth of the area of Shaoxing prefecture. Shangyu belongs to Yangtz River Economic Delta, and is one of the first coastal opening cities and the member of Hangjiahu high science and technology zone ratified by the State Council.
Shangyu lies in the north subtropical rim and has a typical subtropical monsoon climate, it is mild and humid, there the annual mean air temperature is 16.4℃,annual frost-free period 251days,suuny time 3000 hours, relative humidity is 75% and the southeast wind and south wind prevailing in summer ,north and southwest wind in winter. Annual average wind speed is 3m/s, average annual rainfall is 1,400mm, average air pressure is 101 Kpa.
