Xinyang City, located among the Changjiang River, Huaihe River, Huanghe River and Hanshui River, , is a place of great importance in economic and cultural exchange between the South and the North since the ancient times. With its long brilliant history, advantageous geographical position, abundant resources, Xinyang is a place of great potentials. At a conjoint position where the southern culture coexists and mingles with the northern one, Xinyang develops its cultural characteristics good at assimilation and absorption, representing a kind of intervening culture of Henan Province and Hebei Province.

Jigongshan Senic Spot is ranked with Beidaihe, Lu Shan, Moganshan as the four top summer holiday resorts of China; the water coverage of Nanwan Lake is seventy times larger than that of Xihu Lake; Lingshan Temple is the only one that houses both monks and nuns in China; Tangquan Pool is well known for its hot-water-therapy; the legendary General Xu Shiyou is known to every household.
