Jinzhong Municipality Overview
Jinzhong lies in the middle of Shanxi province, which is not only one of the most important places of origin for Chinese civilization but also the source of business culture of Shanxi.
Jingzhong lies in the middle section of the Taihang Mountains, eastern Taiyuan (Jinzhong) Basin. The Taihang Mountains, Qinlu Plateau, Taiyue Mountains and Taiyuan Basin stand east-west constituting the basic setup of Jinzhong's terrain. Mountainous region occupies over eighty percent of the city's territory.
Climatic Features: Enjoying a temperate continental monsoon climate, Jinzhong has dry and chilly winter, torrid and wet summer. Its annual average temperature falls around 9 degree centigrade (48.2 degree Fahrenheit). On the whole, its rainfall mainly concentrates on summer. As to the spatial distribution, the rainfall in southeast Jinzhong is more than that in the northwest. Autumn is the most ideal period to visit Jinzhong.
Jinzhong had created a great number of economic miracles which had caught the attention of the whole world. From early 17th century to the middle of 19th century, the firms and stores set up by the merchants in Jinzhong spread all over those large capitals and cities, and even extended to other countries like Japan, Russia, Mongolia and west Asian countries. For a time, "Jin(Shanxi) Merchants" and "Hui(Anhui) Merchants" enjoyed a same high fame in the world. In 1824, the first financial organization in China's history---"Rishengchang" bank was set up in Jinzhong, which is the originator of Chinese finance. Since then, Shanxi exchange banks represented by "Rishengchang" gradually led the general trend of the country's finance, dealing with the remittance, loan and deposit operation throughout all over the world.
Jinzhong has rich tourist resources with their distinctive features. It possesses numerous cultural relics and historic sites. The Shanxi business culture tourist resources represented by the historic and cultural heritage of the world ---ancient city of Pingyao, and the Taihang Scenic Area represented by the world famous Dazhai Scenic Area have become the most favored places of interest for the tourists at home and abroad. At the same time, there are about 32 cultural relics and historic sites in Jinzhong under state protection or province protection, such as The Temple of the Town Deity of Yuci, Wubian temple of Taigu, Zhenguo Temple, Shuanglin Temple in Pingyao, Zishou Temple in Lingshi, and Baofu Temple in Jiexiu, etc., and they are attracting more and more tourists from all over the world.
