Overview
Located in the north of Sichuan basin, Guangyuan lies at a place where Jialingjiang River, Bailongjiang River and Nan River meet. This is the juncture of Sichuan, Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. Boasting well-developed roads, railroads and shipping facilities, it is a hub of communication in northern Sichuan, and also distribution center and trade center for adjacent areas. Guangyuan used to be a Soviet revolutionary base in Sichuan and Shaanxi areas, for long with the high reputation of strategic pass both into and out of Sichuan and gateway of northern Sichuan.
With an area of 19,000 square kilometers and a population of 3,000,000, Guangyuan presently exercises a rule over three districts and four counties. Having a subtropics monsoon climate, it is bestowed with pleasant weather. This makes it a key botanical garden city and national healthy city. Surrounded by rivers and greenery mountains, Guangyuan is endowed with exquisite environment. It has high mountains and deep valleys with its functions all in readiness. It adjoins Jianmen Pass in the north and neighbors Qinling Mountains in the south. With imposing and dangerous topography, it has been said from ancient times that “Getting to Sichuan is harder than ascending to heaven.”
Guangyuan is the hometown of Wu Zetian, the only empress in China’s history. Rich cultures of feminism, Three Kingdoms and Red Army accumulate munificent historical inside story for this ancient city. Huangze Temple, Qianfo Precipice, Three Kingdoms Ruins, ancient plank road and “World Girl Great Wall” under preparation for construction, which are renowned both at home and abroad even more highlight Guangyuan's characteristic feminine culture.
