Covering an area of 16,600 square meters, Dazhou City is located in the northwest of Sichuan Province with a population of 6.38million. As a populous and resourceful city of Sichuan Province, Dazhou is an important industrial city of east Sichuan and a commercial center of Qin-Ba area. So it always enjoys the reputation of “the Bright Pearl of East Sichuan”.
With a long history, Dazhou has been a place propitious for giving birth to brilliant people. In the 2nd year of Yongyuan (A.D) during the reign of Emperor He of Eastern Han Dynasty, as part of Ba area in ancient China, Dazhou was made a county,where the later commoners’ offices of districts and prefectures were located. In Sui Dynasty and Tang Dynasty, it was renamed Tongzhou. Through the dynasties of Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing, it was called Dazhou again. In 1999, the Dazhou area was reestablished as the prefecture-level Dazhou City. Dazhou has fostered a host of scholars: Cheng Tao, the writer of “Three Kingdoms”, Zhangsi Xun, a littérateur of Song Dynasty, and Tang Zhen, the thinker and educationist of Qing Dynasty. Dazhou is also the birthplace of a group of outstanding figures: Wangwei Zhou, Zhangai Pin and Wei Chuan.
With elegant mountains and beautiful rivers, Dazhou is abundant in tourism resources including two national preservation units of cultural relics, one national forest park, four provincial scenic spots, three provincial forest parks and one provincial nature reserve. Various splendid natural and cultural landscapes can be found in the city. Cultural relics of Ba people of Luojia Ba in Xuanhan County which is key unit of cultural relics under state protection and grave steles of Han Dynasty in Qu County are national protected units, which can be rated as cultural gems of ancient China. Baili George in Xuanhan County can compare favorably with “the Three Little Gorges”. Batai Mountain and Huae Mountain in Wanyuan City are magnificent, high and serene, which enjoys the reputation of being “Emei Mountain of East Sichuan”. The rural landscape of Dragon-Pond River is well-known far and near. Stretching for ten thousand mu, the bamboo sea of Five-Peak Mountain in Dazhu County is“the root of all bamboo forests under Heaven”according to legend. As a national AA-Grade tourism area, Zhenfo Shan is famous for the “Trinity of Regions” with temples decorated with carved beams and painted pillars, which can be called the ultimate beauty.
