Wenzhou continued to implement the “12345 program” in industry development, conduct the Year of Enterprise Service, the Year of Project Progress and the construction of standard workshops, strengthen construction of the special industrial based, advance the brand strategy, and raise the quality of industrial and economic growth. By the end of 2007, Wenzhou has more than 30 titles of state-level production bases, 80 trademarks famous in China, 17 enterprise groups ascended into the first-batch Top 500 Chinese Enterprise Groups in Competitiveness. Wenzhou Port is one of the biggest container terminals along the coastline of China. Wenzhou has the first railway line that is privately sponsored and constructed with self-reliance and operated independently.
Wenzhou is a coastal city with a long history. As an economic and cultural center in south Zhejiang, Wenzhou is one of the first-batch 14 open-door cities along the coastline. In 2007, the comprehensive economic strength of Wenzhou grew steadily, with the economy demonstrating “the characteristic of steady functioning, strengthened stamina and improved quality”, the aggregate economic volume ranking the 3rd in the province and the comprehensive economic strength joining the rank of the top 100 Chinese cities in strength. In 2007, the total value of GDP amounted to RMB 215,891 billion, with a per capita GDP of RMB 28,387. The primary industry occupies RMB 11.894 billion and secondary industry RMB 495.122 billion.
