As one of the four capitals of ancient civilizations in the world, Xi’an is a world-famous historical and cultural city and one of the biggest core cities in the Chinese portion of the Eurasian Land Bridge. Xi’an has an area of 9,983 square kilometers, with a population of permanent residents of 8.7 million. In 2008, Xi’an GDP totaled RMB 219.004 billion, with an increase of 15.6% over that of 2007. In the deployment of regional economy of the country, Xi’an has the location advantage of linking the east with the west and cooperating with the east in developing the west, having an important strategic position in the west development strategy. In recent years, Xi’an’s tourism has developed rapidly, becoming the actual pillar industry and leading industry of Xi’an. Situated in the conjunction area between two big economic areas of the west China and central China, Xi’an is the gateway and transportation hub of northwest region outbound to the southwest, central China, east China and north China.
