Pinghu Overview
Pinghu locates at the seashore of East Sea rightly in the Hangjiahu plain which is the northeast section of Zhejiang Province, with Shanghai at its north and Hangzhou Bay at its south. It belongs to the north Asia tropical monsoon climate zone and thus has distinct four seasons and an annual average temperature of 16 degrees centigrade. Pinghu covers a land area of 537 square km and a marine area of 1086 square km with a coastline of 27km. There are now 7 towns and 3 districts under the jurisdiction of Pinghu. The population of Pinghu is 485 thousand, among which 270 thousand are new residents. Pinghu is known for its flat floors, waterway network, distinct four seasons and amiable weather. For long it has been reputed as the "A land of plenty fish and rice; the homeland of watermelon lamps and a city of profound cultures".
Since the implementation of reform and opening up, Pinghu has achieved unprecedented social and economic development, ranking 28th amongst the top 100 counties (cities) all over the country in terms of comprehensive strength. It’s been enlisted in Top 10 counties (cities) in Zhejiang Province in utilizing foreign investment and exporting for ten consecutive years. It’s also one of the 17 economically developed counties (cities) in Zhejiang Province, the first group of Well-off Counties (cities) in Zhejiang Province, the civilized cities of Zhejiang, the educationally strong cities of Zhejiang, the provincial safe and secure cities and one of the national demonstration cities for ecological development, state level Scientifically and technologically advanced cities, glamorous cities of Zhejiang and "the Counties (City) with the Most Investment Value in Yangtze River Delta".
In 2008, Pinghu realized a total output of 27.63billion. The total revenue was 3.93 billion yuan and local revenue, 1.87 billion yuan. The average disposable income of urban residents was 23,446 thousand yuan while the net annual income of rural residents was 11.403 thousand yuan.
Pinghu today is striving forward to be a developed city with open economy in the south of Shanghai, a new modern port city by the Hangzhou Bay and a famous cultural and tourist city of rivers and lakes.
