Longkou is located in the northwest part of Jiaodong Peninsula on the north bank of Bohai Bay at the east longitude 120o 13′to 47′and north latitude 37o 27′to 47′, neighboring Yantai to the east, Weifang to the west and close to Qingdao to the south, facing Dalian, Qinhuangdao and Tianjin across the sea. The total area is 893 square kilometers and the coastline is 68.4 kilometers long.

Longkou City has a monsoon climate of temperate zone with clearly distinguished seasons and pleasant weather. There is neither severe cold winter nor intense hot summer. The annual average temperature is around 11.7℃ and annual average rainfall is 583 mm. The frost-free period is more than 190 days.

Longkou City has 611 administrative villages and 16 townships (districts / streets) under its jurisdiction. There are 630,000 people in the whole city.

Longkou City is rich in natural resources. The verified resources for mining are more than 10 kinds including coal, gold, petroleum, natural gas, granite, limestone, arenaceous, quartz, marble, lead & zinc, fluorite, etc. The south mountain area is teeming with gold. The coal deposit is verified to be 2.6 billion tons and the State′s largest seaside coal base is in Longkou. Longkou sea area is rich in oil. Penglai 19-3 oil field is a super large-scale oil field in the middle of Bohai Sea with a proven reserve of 1 billion tons and recoverable reserve of about 600 million tons. China National Offshore Oil Corporation has established a logistic base in Longkou. Bohai oil gas field, 48.6 sea miles from Longkou, has 22.5 billion cubic meter proven natural gas reserves and 10.8 billion cubic meter recoverable reserves, which has landed in Longkou.
