Zhaoyuan Overview
Zhaoyuan is a city of Yantai, Shandong province. It is on seashore of Bohai Sea. It is the point of intersection of Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone, Yellow River Delta Efficient Eco-Economic Zone and Jiaodong Peninsula High-end Industry Cluster. Zhaoyuan lies to Japan and Korea across the sea. It is one of the most flourishing economic and greater development potential areas in China.
Zhaoyuan has developed railway and highway system. Dajiawa - Laizhou - Longkou railway runs through the city. There are 5 provincial trunk highways and Weihai-Wuda Expressway passing through the city. The highway density reaches 0.64kilometers per square kilometer in zhaoyuan. There have 3 international airports and 3 ports within 150 km with direct liners to Japan, South Korea, Hongkong, Macao and other countries and regions.
Zhaoyuan is well known for its abundant gold deposit and production. In 2002 Zhaoyuan was named "China's Gold City" by China's gold association. Furthermore, Zhaoyuan is one of the national scientific and technological progress advanced counties and cities and it ranks 16th among top 100 countries and cities in the nationandal scientific and technological comprehensive strength.
In recent years, relying on resource and traditional advantages, Zhaoyuan has constantly strengthened industry dominant position, implemented the strategy of industry cluster development, and formed 5 leading industries of gold, tires, electronics, machinery and food processing.
In 2010, the GDP reached RMB 45.296 billion, and local financial revenue reached RMB 2.256 billion, increasing 15.2% and 25.3% respectively. The proportion of three major industries is 6:60.8:33.2. Zhaoyuan moved up two places to 42nd in China County-level Economy Basic Competitiveness, and moved up three places to 48th in Small and Medium-sized City Science Development Top 100.
