Taipei Overview
Overview
Taipei hosts a small but welcoming expatriate community whose members come from all around the world. While many nationalities establish both formal and informal social and business groups, these are generally open to all members of the international community. Additionally, the Community Services Center provides vital support services to all members of the community, regardless of race, religion or nationality.
In recent years, the quality of life for expatriate and Taiwanese residents of Taipei has improved. This is in large measure due to the opening of Taipei's excellent rapid transit system, which has reduced traffic and pollution in the city. Strictly enforced garbage and recycling regulations have transformed the city into one of the cleanest in East Asia. Taipei is also increasingly cosmopolitan, with an improving range of shopping, eating and entertainment options.
Taipei offers all of the urban activities you would expect from a major city, including shopping, dining, nightclubbing, as well as concerts and a newly-renovated, world-class museum. Outdoor enthusiasts will not be disappointed owing to relatively easy access to hiking, bicycling, golf and other activities.
Above all, it is important to note that the people of Taiwan are exceptionally friendly and welcoming of foreigners living on their beautiful island.
